Robert SMITHSON

American Land art artist

Born in 1938 and deceased in 1973

He  was one of the most representative American theoretician artists of minimalist art.

Robert Smithson will find, in the idea of entropy and growing disorder, a new way of practicing art in reaction to the purely formalistic discourse which aims to isolate art from the reality.

His majestic work, « Spiral Jetty »: a giant dike that spirals counter-clockwise evoking entropy, the evolution of the world in reverse.

A universal symbol, tied to the sun worship, a work in perpetual motion is an allegory of creation.
